Alaska is a harder sell for a yacht brand than the Med. A Mediterranean sunset does most of the work on its own. With Alaska, you’re asking people to trade the sun lounger for glaciers and wildlife, and to believe the experience on board still feels like The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.
So when RCYC launched its Alaska voyages, our job was to make that trade feel obvious. We also had to build a library of content the brand could keep using long after the sailings ended.
The Brief
Three things made this harder than a standard destination push. Alaska was a new region for RCYC, so there was no back catalogue of content to draw on. The audience researches heavily before committing to a voyage at this price point. And RCYC needed assets for its own channels, not just a burst of posts on someone else’s feed.
The Strategy
We stopped treating Alaska as a social moment and treated it as a search and platform problem. Rather than spread activity across a wide roster of lifestyle creators, we went deep with two heavyweights who could own the research phase of the buying journey.
That meant formats built to last: long-form YouTube, plus blog posts optimised for SEO and AEO, so RCYC shows up when someone asks Google or ChatGPT what an Alaska yacht voyage is actually like. Instagram stopped the scroll, whilst YouTube and the blogs did the convincing.
The Talent
We partnered with Ryan Resatka and Luxury Travel Expert. Both bring a clear point of view as well as a good eye, and that mattered. Luxury Travel Expert’s long-form YouTube content pulled in 200K+ views, backed by four detailed review blogs. On Instagram, one Alaska post reached 231K impressions and another hit a 15% engagement rate.
Because we’d built real relationships with both creators, we secured a large share of the content on trade rather than for a fee. Working with creators over time is what makes that possible. A one-off booking doesn’t get you there.
The Results
All organic: 7M impressions, 41K engagements, a 5% engagement rate, 264 pieces of content and $625K in Earned Media Value. Every asset now feeds RCYC’s wider digital and social activity.
What we learned:
- Go narrow and heavy. In a considered category, two creators with authority beat twenty with reach.
- Build for the research phase. Long-form video and search-optimised content keep working after the post date. A Story lasts 24 hours.
- Pair aspiration with information. Aesthetic content earns the stop. Detailed review content earns the booking.
The Takeaway
In luxury travel, people rarely decide in the feed. They decide over weeks of searching, watching and comparing. If your creator programme only covers the first ten seconds of that journey, you’re leaving most of the value on the table. Pick creators who can carry the whole thing.
